We have lost one of the Good Guys in Motorsports Media

This is a sad day for us here at "The Motorsports Report" and for me personally. Our good friend, mentor, and all around great guy, John Cardinale lost his fight with evil Cancer. John was the guy you could go to, talk to and ask questions of almost like no other Motorsports Media Director of almost any Race Track anywhere. My Managing Editor, good friend and partner on this website, Edmund Jenks share in our loss of one the really good guys. Our good friend Jack Beckman fought and beat Cancer. Dick Dixon and Jon Knapp did not. And now we have lost John Cardinale. We take this pretty hard here as it cuts way too close to home. Our newest intern, and all around great lady Dana Marino (John Force's younger sister) is in a battle fighting cancer right now, so all of us here, our friends and Family all hope and pray this evil sickness does not take another of our beloved family anytime soon. Cancer is such a deadly way of making people die, any country who had it as a weapon could rule the world. And  maybe then Countries of this World would invest the time and money to stop this Killer of people?

To Steve Page, Dianna Brennan, Jennifer Imbimbo and the entire staff and tenants of the Sonoma Raceway Complex we wish you all the best in this time of sorrow. John was very much loved by all of us here at "The Motorsports Report" and all our member companies staff and sponsors of: Competition Engineering, Brewster Coachworks, Rev-Tec, American Sports Racing Assn., Amateur Karting Assn., Toyota Motor Vehicle Club of America, Professional Test Drivers Assn. of America, Group Five Limited, Grip-Trix, Reliable Steel, and the entire Inskip-Wear Family wish John's Family, Co-workers and friends to take heart and be ever more happy having had John in our lives while we did.

Drag racing has lost a great behind the scenes man.

John Cardinale, the longtime publicist for Sonoma Raceway, has lost his two-year battle with gastric cancer. He was 47, and leaves behind wife Andrea and two daughters.

“There is a hole in the heart of this organization," said Steve Page, president and general manager of Sonoma Raceway. "John Cardinale was as true a friend, as loyal a colleague, as devoted a husband and father and as fine a human being as you could ever hope to know. John has been a part of every good thing that has happened at this track over the last 15 years. We are all so fortunate to have had him in our lives and to have shared in his intelligence, his wit, his integrity and his brave spirit.”

For those who would like to make a donation in John’s honor, a memorial fund has been set up on behalf of his family.  Donations may be sent to the John Cardinale Memorial Fund, care of Sonoma Raceway, 29355 Arnold Drive, Sonoma, CA 95476.

We will share information on services and other arrangements as they become available.

Sad news from Sonoma Raceway. John Cardinal passed away at 47. Always a pleasure to work with, even in the days when the press room was a rickety plywood structure inside Turn 1. Here is the statement from the track.
